Bali's Second Home Visa: What it means for long-term stays

29 October 2026 · 2 min read

What is the Second Home Visa?

Indonesia's immigration authority has introduced the 'Rumah Kedua' or Second Home Visa for foreigners who do not intend to work but wish to stay in the country for an extended period. This policy was implemented through a circular issued by the Directorate General of Immigration. The visa grants the holder and their family the right to reside in Indonesia for a set period.

Duration and scope

The Second Home Visa allows applicants to stay in Indonesia for 5 or 10 years. This visa does not replace a work permit; its purpose is long-term residence rather than employment. Holders may engage in various activities, including investment, though it is important to consult one's own legal or financial advisor on such matters.

Application requirements

Applicants must have a passport valid for a certain period and must provide sufficient proof of funds. Alternatively, a document showing property ownership in Indonesia may be accepted. Applications are submitted through the official online system.

Applying without a sponsor

In some cases, foreigners may apply for the Second Home Visa without a sponsor. In such cases, proof of funds or a property ownership document may suffice. It should be noted that after the visa or permit date, relevant documents must be reported to the immigration office within a certain period, otherwise the visa may be cancelled and deportation proceedings may follow.

Difference from KITAS

The Second Home Visa is a different category from other Indonesian residence permits such as KITAS. A KITAS application must be submitted within a certain period after entry stamping, at the immigration office in the region where the foreigner resides. Before deciding which visa type suits one's personal situation, it is useful to review current regulations and seek expert advice if needed.

  • Check passport validity period
  • Prepare proof of funds or property document
  • Submit application through official online system
  • Follow reporting deadlines

Conclusion

For Turkish investors planning a long-term stay in Bali, the Second Home Visa is an option worth careful consideration. As current conditions and documentation requirements may change over time, it is advisable to consult official sources and, if necessary, a legal advisor before applying.
